I was lucky enough to receive a copy of a wonderful new children's book called Mommy's High Heel Shoes. It is written by author and full-time working mom Kristie Finnan, who was inspired by her daughter to write this book that illustrates the love between a mother and daughter and explores the reason why some mommys work.
The main character's name is Cakes, because of her love for cupcakes. Cakes loves to try on all of her mommy's different shoes, and the Mom tells her that she has different kinds of shoes for all the different jobs she has. After trying to walk in a pair high heels, Cakes wonders aloud if her mommy wears these tall tricky shoes because she works with giants. The Mom then explains that she loves wearing fancy shoes and says, "wearing them makes me feel good and when I feel good, I am a better Mommy."
While reading the book, I thought of a few working mom friends who would appreciate receiving a copy of this delightful book. After all, I'm not a working mom. But after reading it, I instantly realized that although the mommy in the story goes to work every day, she could actually represent any mom. I may not work outside the home, but I still need to take time for myself to help me stay sane and happy. My kids will sometimes beg to come with me when I'm heading out the door for some "me time," but I assure them they'll be happier if I go.=)
The really fun part about this book is that there is a hidden cupcake, ladybug and heart on each page of the story... that's something my boys especially enjoyed about it!
Sounds like a cute book. I admit I love heels...ladies would give me a hard time for wearing them while I was pregnant :-)
I too look so forward to me time without the kids. I haven't had the greatest me time moments since Case was born b/c my new sitter had a weird scdedule...but that is changing in January and I am so pumped.
Have a great Friday!

I love my high heel shoes too and my girls love to try them on and click around our kitchen. In this book, did Cake's mom pile on the makeup to cover up the dark circles under her eyes, blow off an important meeting at work to stay home with a sick child or forget to pack Cake's lunch? Just wanted to make sure this book didn't glamorize working mommy-hood. It honestly ain't pretty.

Hey there- just wondering if you do book reviews for a publishing company or just pick books up on your own to review? I am asking b/c I have recently signed on with Thomas Nelson to review books on my blog and wondered if there were others that had more kids books.
