It blows my mind how I somehow maintain a steadily high level of chaos and hecticness in my life - making it appear like a not-so-geschmeck-looking blob of goulash... if you're down with the food analogies (read: just a whole lot of who-knows-what all thrown together).
So in an attempt to downsize the crazy and upsize the mellow, I am taking control of the grocery situation. Grocery shopping had already gotten better with the introduction of the uber cart, (see volume 1 of the chronicles) but it's been taken to a whole new level of calm and serenity, better known as Safeway.com. Last Thursday, I navigated my cart through the virtual aisles and filled my grocery bag click by click. It took me a good 30 minutes to locate all my pantry must-haves, but that's at least 30 minutes less than I'd spend in the actual store, leaving me with an extra half-hour for the inevitable daily mishmash of phone calls, emails, diaper changes, and Thomas the Tank Engine.
The other perk is that it completely eliminates any possibility of straining my muscles trying to load heavy edibles into my truck or lug them up the 31 (yes, I have 31) stairs to our apartment. I also like that they still accept your bonus card- so you get all the same in-store deals you'd see normally. There's also no waiting in check-out lines, no double- and triple-backing over to produce territory after you've ventured to the complete opposite end of the store - instead, just click "produce" and you're there.
The one drawback is maybe that you have to plan ahead a little bit. Usually the earliest delivery day you can pick is 1-2 days after the day you place the order.* So if you have a hankering for coffee ice cream with cool whip topping, your hankering will either have to wait 2 days, or you might just need to muster up the courage brave the frosty breezes of the freezer section. The delivery fee, while some might see it as a drawback, didn't sway me in the least. The 7 bucks was worth all the extra time, extra energy, and extra sanity that having my groceries delivered brought me.
*exception: if you place order prior to 9am, groceries can be delivered same day.
